PACS 511: Contemporary Peace Issues
This course is designed to introduce students to the contemporary issues of peace – illustrates key issues and problems connected to peace research. To this end, students learn theoretical approaches, historical background and develop analytical ability to look into various aspects of conflict, violence and peace. Students become acquaint with alternative concepts of peace and various approaches to conflict handling.
The content covers violence peace in the 21st century: background, trends, and issues; emergent conflict and peace; civilization and peace; globalization, conflict and peace; peace and the legal system; human security and peace; gender and peace; modern states and global challenges to peace; climate change and insecurity; conflict resolution and peace studies; case studies (related to the contemporary issues, conditions, historical perspectives of peace and conflict).
