PACS 522: Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism
The study of terrorism and counter-terrorism is an emerging inter-disciplinary field in the academic arena of Peace and Conflict Studies since terrorism poses the largest threat to global peace and security. This course will introduce students with conceptual debates, trends and actors of modern terrorism, the sources of terrorist financing and their transnational networks. It analyzes counter-terrorism strategies employed by the different governments around the world. Students acquire analytical skills, comprehend and explain terrorism at the national and international level. It provides substantive knowledge and theoretical foundation through readings, discussions, exams and assignments which will contribute to building students’ critical thinking in the field of terrorism and counter-terrorism. The acquisition of such critical skills will help students understand the changing trends of the global terrorism, the actors and interests associated with them.
